Leesvragen en kadervraag week 4

Goldstein, J. Violent Video Games. H 22, pp. 341-357.
Researchers use different indicators of measuring aggressive behaviour, presumably caused by video games, because it is not possible to observe real aggression. But are these indicators correct representations of the real thing? Can they really say something about aggression in real live or is it impossible to ‘imitate’ aggression behaviour in this way?

Griffiths, M. & Davies, M. Does Video Game Addiction Exist? H 23, pp. 359-369
In the text it is made clear that males are most excessive users of video games, but does this necessarily mean that males are in general more at risk for a gaming addiction than females? Furthermore in the research on video game addiction discussed in this article, researchers haven’t made a clear distinction in the different kinds of video games. Could there be a clear distinction in video games regarding their addictive effects.

Kadervraag
The media seems to be very ‘concerned’ around video games and their negative effects regarding aggressive behaviour and their addictive characteristic. They address many case studies and research that argue in favour of these negative effects. To what extend does the media create a (non-realistic) hype around this subject?
